Advantages: Great film, good action scenes.
Disadvantages: Violent, gory, can be so slow.
When ?Kill Bill? was being filmed, there was all this fuss about it; you know it being Tarantino?s first film in six years. Well I have liked Tarantino?s work but this film was of no interest to me, I don?t know why, it just didn?t seem all that interesting. That is until I decided to download the trailer and see what all this fuss was about, and immediately I knew I wanted to see this film. First impression led me to believe this was nothing but an action packed blockbuster, a cute blonde with a samurai sword kicking peoples back sides, but it?s not really what I imagined, it actually has a story, and even though action does play a big part in the movie, it?s not so much that you get bored of the fight scenes. There?s just enough to keep you satisfied and anticipating the next fight scene, which in my opinion is the best way, this way they never get tiresome. The bride (who?s name is beeped out every time it is mentioned) wants to turn her back on being one of the best assassins around. Rather than killing people for a living, she now wants to settle down, get married and have a family. She?s pregnant and about to get married, but when she is about to, her ex team of assassins do her in on the order of Bill. Bill being the boss of this team of assassins. Vernita Green (Copperhead), O-Ren Ishii (Cottonmouth), Elle Driver (California mountain snake), Budd (Sidewinder) and Bill leave everyone for dead, including the bride, but they made one big mistake, the bride isn?t actually dead. After four years in a coma, the bride wakes up to find she is no longer pregnant and realises everything she was about to have is gone. Now the one thing she wants is revenge from the people who took away her baby. My favourite scene is the first scene to be shown in the entire movie. It?s a mixture of violence ye
t so emotional; in that one scene you feel the brides emotion. It?s rather artistic, in a sense as it?s done in black and white, but it really is a brilliant start to the movie, as it gears you up for what?s to come. This movie is genuinely different to what I?ve seen. It manages to incorporate so many different styles of filmmaking but it all goes together so well. What was so cleverly done was the inclusion of anime, and it fits in perfectly. I would imagine that anime wouldn?t fit into a film like this, but I, myself felt over come with emotion, it just seemed so real, you forgot for a second that it was in fact anime. Other memorable moments were the tributes to martial arts movies, which were pleasing to the eye in every possible way. There are plenty of influences heavily displayed in this movie, and I don?t think Tarantino is hiding the fact that he?s borrowed so heavily from other sources. Uma Thurman did an amazing job, this movie may just seem like an action packed blockbuster, but Uma genuinely put in a brilliant performance. I was nothing but impressed, there were scenes of emotion, anger and plain ass kicking in the gruesome fight scenes but everything she did, she did right. At first I didn?t think a performance like this needed brilliant acting, but it just goes to show, do not judge this film on it?s trailer. The other actors did well to fill their roles, but this film focused more on the bride rather than any of the other characters. But I still think good performances came from Vivica A. Fox and Lucy Liu. Liu who played a bit of a wolf in sheep?s clothing, was the most aggressive I?ve ever seen her in a film, she was no longer cute little Lucy, but aggressive bad ass chick, some might argue she had no emotion when speaking, but to me this added more substance to her character, a heartless person with intent t
o kill. Quentin Tarantino has created a gory and bloody affair, and I think he?s damn proud of it. This movie is about flying body parts and blood spewing, and I praise Tarantino for being so outrageous to do so. This guy is responsible for the story, and the direction, both of which in my opinion are great. There are a few faults with the story but not so much that you find yourself hurling abuse at the screen. I think he?s done a great job as a writer, and a director. His style of filmmaking is washed with extreme close ups, split screens and varied camera speeds which adds a lot of character to this film. The camera movements changed rapidly to suit the scene, which was somewhat reminiscent of martial arts movies from the early 70?s. This however was not a bad thing, as it set the scene every time. This isn?t Tarantino?s best work, but it?s a good comeback after his 6-year hiatus. Plain and simple this movie is pleasurable to watch. From so many people and critics alike word has been that this is the most violent movie to come out of Hollywood for years. This in a sense put me off, and I don?t like violence all that much. I mean who wants to see broken limbs and blood spewing everywhere? So all this talk of gore put me off slightly, but I still went ahead and watched it, all I can say is, it is very violent. Blood is in almost every scene, and there are some very graphic scenes of body parts being sliced and diced. If the sight of blood makes you queasy then it?s best that you avoid this film, if not then let the massacre begin. The only bad thing about this movie is that some scenes do tend to drag on a bit, but take in to consideration that this was one movie which was sliced in half so Tarantino wouldn?t have to cut the movie to it?s bare minimums. I guess it?s a fact that the first half is the plot coming in to action,
the second half is obviously much more action packed, and that is what I look forward to seeing, but having said that, I don?t think that this movie is slow and nothing but, there is enough action to keep anyone satisfied, what?s coming up in Volume II is something to look forward to. One great yet different thing about this movie is the music. Music is known to set the scene in a movie, but the music in some scenes could not have been more contrasting to what was actually going on. This I felt added such a good effect to the movie, there is a blend of western tunes mixed in modern Japanese music. If you like action movies, then this is definitely for you. If you think that you wont enjoy this film just because you?re not a fan of Tarantino, then don?t worry, I am no fan of his but this movie was great, I think it will appeal to a wider audience This movie could be classed as good filmmaking or as pure entertainment, it?s bordering on both, which means more types of people will love it, I genuinely recommend it, but be warned, it?s not all action but when there is action, it?s gory?very gory! To me that?s a good thing. Bring on volume II! CAST~~ Uma Thurman ? The Bride David Carradine ? Bill Lucy Liu ? O-Ren Ishii (Cottonmouth) Daryl Hannah ?
