Christmas and New Year can be a frustrating time for movie buffs. Most of the films on TV I’ve seen already and the constant Yuletide theme that runs through the majority of scheduling adds a contrived slant to most of the material on offer. The best way to deal with this, I’ve found, is to seek out those films that have nothing to do with the seasonal festivities at all and I’ve discovered some little gems using this strategy. Possibly the best of all is a 1988 curio called “Killer Klowns From Outer Space”. Starring: Grant Cramer as Mike Tobacco Suzanne Snyder as Debbie Stone John Allen Nelson as Dave Hanson John Vernon as Curtis Mooney As you may have guessed from the title, this cult 1988 film is very, very silly. The look and feel appear to be a send-up of 1950s 'alien invasion' sci-fi B movies, but despite the B-movie feel, the production values are quite good unlike the original 50s B equivalents. This seems to have been director Stephen Chiodo's only directing effort, which is a shame as it's an enjoyable enough film that you feel you would like to see more from him. He also wrote and produced it. Teenagers Debbie and ... Read the complete review

By the film's title, you might think that it's just a terrible, brainless film that sits alongside the "Grindhouse" genre of films as "so bad it's good", but in fact, Killer Klowns is a self consciously kitschy film that's actually a whole lot of fun! It doesn't try to be serious like so many previous horrors - it just revels in its own silliness, and as such is a complete laugh riot and a cult classic gem! The film's title tells you all you need to really know about the film - a fleet of aliens head to Earth, strangely having the appearance of evil clowns. In a small time American town of Crescent Cove, the civilians are being murdered and ... Read the complete review
