When I saw the Knocked Up Trailer I knew it was a film that I would enjoy...my partner on the other hand was not convinced and was sure that it would be another Girly film so we waited for it to be released on DVD and added it to our DVD rental list.
The film focuses around Ben Stone a 23 year old who is unemployed and living illegally in the US who has just $14000 to live on which he received as settlement when a mail truck ran over his foot as a teenager back in British Columbia.
Alison Scott is the other half of the story a responsible, hardworking young woman on the fast track to stardom working for E! Television network. Alison lives behind her sisters house in the pool house and helps Debbie and her husband look after their two daughters, when Alison finally gets to become a TV star she and Debbie go on a girls night out to a popular club and bumps into Ben where they get on under the influence of alcohol and end up having unprotected sex and hence the title of the movie.....she gets knocked up.
The film is very funny and my partner actually enjoyed it, saying it was well balanced and was not too girly, so if you like chick flicks this is one your guy will enjoy.
Knocked up is on for 2hours and 13 minutes and is rated a 15 and when you get to about an hour in then you start to feel a little bored but fortunately the film does pull back your attention with some great comedy moments it is written by Judd Apatow who has been hailed a comedy genius, now judging by the last film I watched by the same writer/director I would certainly not give him this title but after watching this film I do think the guy is a genius. Judd Apatow has perfectly pitched dialogue that is so funny.
For Rogen who plays Ben Stone this is his first starring role as he was in a supporting role in "40 Year old Virgin" but he is the guy you have to love even if his laugh starts to grate on you by the end of the movie. Partnered with Heigl who plays Alison Scott this is a movie pair made in heaven as they just work great together making a couple that you just love to watch and for the hopeless romantic you just want them to fall in love but you will only discover the storyline if you watch the movie.
If you have watched "40 Year Old Virgin" then you will notice that this film features almost every cast member from Apatow's earlier works, in fact this film almost feels like a family reunion. The starts are comfortable with everyone else and it shows, which means you can enjoy the movie.
This film is from the makers of " 40 year old virgin" and a lot of the cast reapper in this film.
If you like American Pie then this is the film for you it is entertaining and has plenty of funny moments for both the lads and the gals!!
