Synopsis
After a one night stand , Alison Scott discovers she is pregnant to slacker, Ben Stone. This is the story of how both parties manage to deal with the pregnancy despite being two very different people.

The Story
Alison Scott is a hard working career girl at E entertainment, she's single and lives at her sister and brother in law's home in their pool house. One day she gets a promotion, instead of being behind the camera she's going to be E's newest presenter.
To celebrate Alison and Deb's go out to a club where she meets Ben Stone. Ben's a slacker, he lives with his friends and has no job instead he and his mates sit around all day smoking pot and watching movies so one day they'll be able to set up their own website which can tell people which actresses get naked in which films and how long into the film.
Although an unlikely pairing Ben thinks Alison is hot and she's leathered, so after drinking and dancing the night away Alison takes Ben home and they have sex, although there has been a misunderstanding regaurding contraception.
The next Alison's regretting her actions, especially when over breakfast she realises they have absolutely nothing in common and they go their seperate ways.
Eight weeks later after lots of spewing Alison discovers she is pregnant and contacts Ben to let him know. After much soul searching Alison decides she's going to keep the baby and rather than doing a runner Ben decides to stick around and offer support. The pair quickly become a couple again, Ben gets to know Alison's family and Alison gets to know Ben's friends. With raging hormones and both parties scared of what's going to happen things don't really bode well for them.

My Experience

I'd been wanting to see this for a while as I'd heard nothing but good things about the film so I set it to high priorty with my online DVD rental service.
The film is actually brilliant yet not at all what I was expecting. I was kind of expecting a cheesy romcom, with in your face comedy, what I actually found was the film has quite a few layers although there is in your face comedy moments a lot of the comedy is more sutble and there are serious, touching and tender moments along the way.
The film has great characters. Although Ben is slacker and quite useless, I really wanted to dislike him but he is also funny and sweet which made it impossible. Debs' character is one I myself can relate to, after having her kids she's come to the conclusion that she's getting older and doesn't feel sexy anymore, although she comes across as a bit of a nag she just wants to be wanted. My favorite character is Pete, despite being laid back and maybe a bit selfish he's hilarious.
The acting is fabulous Heigl and Rogen do a great job a an awkward new couple but it's still hard to believe that this pair actually end up falling for eachother.Heigl also does a great hormonal and speaking from my own experience the birth scenes and far off reality. The person for me who really shines is Paul Rudd playing Pete, he comes across as very natural and his Robert De Niro impression is excellent, he also has a great onscreen chemistry with Rogen, the two of them are a hilarious double act.
What did surprise me was how graphic the birth scene was, I've never seen that in a film before (well apart from educational ones). Some people might want to shut their eyes at that point.
Like all good romances the ending is fitting but also a bit too cheesy compared to the rest of the film.
There is also quite a good soundtrack featuring Britney, Lily Allen, The Clash and The Wiggles to name but a few.
Overall
This definatley one to add to the DVD collection. It's got great characters, great storyline and is really well acted. People who have been through the whole pregnancy and birth thing will probably be able to identify with a lot of the situations but I think there is lessons here to be learned for those who haven't been there and done that yet.Especially the blokes.
