Advantages: Entertaiing at parts

Disadvantages: STory.

Why does Nicolas Cage pick up roles that doesn't suit him? Every time i see him in such an action/adventure genre, i ask myself this question. Be it treasure island series, next(which i thought was underrated as a film),Ghost rider and now Knowing, he doesn't fit the bill. Though its atleast better that the characters are not cool or sleek but rather more intellectual which makes it more beleivable.

Knowing starts off in 1959, when a time capsule is buried at the time of inaugaration of a school.Students are asked to make a drawing which will be kept in the time capsule for the next 50 years, after which they will be opened and viewed by children of that generation. We see a little girl scribbling down a series of numbers in a paper rather than making a drawing and 50 years down the line, Nicolas's son receives that paper as a student of the same school.

Nicolas plays a MIT professor and he gets intrigued when he sees the paper with the words. With his curiosity he starts to look through the paper to finally find out that it is trying to say something. I won't tell you the story here but its the series of numbers that drives the film, along with the characters of Nicolas and his son.

The makers make it a point to target family audiences here, focussing on the relationship between father-son and mother-daughter. Above all the thrills/adventure, this is essentially a family film at heart. This is nothing new as this has been attempted in many films like War of Worlds,etc.The film does have its moments of glory but it is mostly average stuff.I was looking for a better ending here, but i was utterly disappointed with it.

I think Knowing is an okay watch,especially if you are looking for some popcorn stuff, but don't expect something really different or amazing.
