Rating:

Advantages: Picture, Sound, Plenty of Action

Disadvantages: Not long enough, Not available in UK (yet)

This film is in the same vein as Conan the Barbarian and is a fantasy action film. In fact, the character of Kull was invented by Conan’s creator Robert E. Howard and is set in the same land as Conan, just thousands of years before – and has been referred to in the Conan novels.

Kull (Played by Hercules actor Kevin Sorbo) himself is a barbarian who rises to become king by his own hand and after being betrayed by some of his subjects, has to defeat a recently reincarnated 3,000 year old witch named Akivasha (played by Tia Carrere).

This film has only ever been released in this country on rental video although it has been on Sky a few times, but is available on Region 1 DVD – the picture quality is excellent and is very sharp and clear, the sound is of an equally high standard, from the action scenes to the rock soundtrack.

The details of this DVD are:

2.35:1 Anamorphic Widescreen, English 5.1 surround, 1 hour 36 mins long, Single-sided disc, Theatrical trailer.

The only criticism’s I would make are that the film is not long enough and the DVD is devoid of extras (hopefully a special edition is planned for the R2 release – but I doubt it!).

If you like the Conan films or just want an hour-and-a-half of action, adventure and pure escapism then this is definitely worth watching, it is not up to the standard of the first Conan film, but there is plenty of action and the fight scenes are well choreographed.
