Advantages: A good family movie, quite funny too!
Disadvantages: The plot is a little daft, but this is expected from such a film!
The Facts: Certificate - PG, Running Time - 88 Minutes, Genre - Animation/Family
The Plot: Po (played by Jack Black), is a Panda working for his father in a noodle shop in a sleepy rural village. He dreams of becoming a kung fu legend and fighting alongside his heroes, the Furious Five, against all kinds of crime and evil!
The only things holding him back are his father's dreams of him becoming a noodle chef and his lack of kung fu ability!
When chance thrusts him into the role of the Dragon Warrior - a fabled and legendary fighter who, it is foretold, will save the valley from an evil villain!
My Review: I ordinarily don't like family animations, but was pleasantly and genuinely surprised by this film. As a Jack Black fan it is noted that he brings a lot of his energy and comedic style to his role, but this is comprehensively supported by a well picked supporting cast including Dustin Hoffman and Angelina Jolie.
The plot is silly, but the twists and turns are enough to keep the story running along nicely and it is hard to fail to be drawn into the tribulations of the main character.
There are plenty of laughs within this film for all the family and the delivery of the movie is also good. The non-specific medieval Chinese village setting is carried through the film and provides a good backdrop for the plot as it develops.
I watched this with my wife and we both really enjoyed it. I'd say it would be good for families and Jack Black fans!
Summary: Well Worth a Watch
