Advantages: David Bowie, Lots of fantasy, Imaginative creatures and senarios, beautiful storyline.
Disadvantages: None in my opinion!.
The Labyrinth is one of my all time favourite films, featuring an excellent cast (Including David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly) and loads of wonderful songs (Performed by David Bowie, of course) - it's a magical adventure into the heart of the Goblin city.
Sarah (Connelly), a young girl enchanted by fairytales and stories of the Goblin King, finds herself at home babysitting her baby brother while her dad and stepmum go out for the night. Angered by the fact that her baby brother won't stop crying, she threatens to call the Goblins to take him away from her... she starts to say the words but nothing happens, when she finally gets the words right and flicks the light off, her brother stops crying... she runs back into the room and realises he's gone, enter David Bowie, The Goblin King - dressed deliciously from head to toe in spandex. The Goblin King offers Sarah the opportunity to forget her brother and go play with her toys instead, but Sarah refuses - saying she must get her brother back, so The Goblin King takes her to the edge of the Labyrinth and gives her 13 hours to find her brother, before he becomes a Goblin too.
Throughout her journey through the Labyrinth, Sarah meets all kinds of weird and wonderful creatures - such as a talking worm, a big large hairy monster with a heart of gold, door knockers that are deaf and mute, dancing beings that can pull their heads off, a friendly, yet scared, little goblin creature who ends up being her very best friend of all and many many more loveable Jim Henson creations.
The Labyrinth is the best film to come out of the 80s, it's fantasy and magic still holds its own, even in the noughties - where films are constantly churned out using elaborate special effects. The Labyrinth is full of beautiful scenes that make you wish that you too could explore this weird and wonderful place (although maybe not for the same reasons Sarah has to!).
This film is very suitable for families to watch together, as kids and teenagers love it, as do parents alike... it really is a film for every generation.
The soundtrack is stunning, with lots of tracks that make you want to get up and dance. When I was a young teenager my friends and I used to love sticking on the soundtrack and dancing around the house like lunatics!.
The Labyrinth is simply one of the best fantasy films of all time, so if you haven't seen it yet - what are you waiting for?!... go check it out now! :).
Summary: The most fantastic adventure of all.
