Advantages: Great kids film.
Disadvantages: Disney are expensive.
I have always loved this film and at last i own it on DVD! It has been a real treat to sit and watch this and mess about with all the special features this morning.
The Film.
For those of you who dont know anything about this film I'll run through the plot.
Lady is a well brought up cocker spaniel, she lives with her owners Jim Dear and Darling and spends time playing with her friends Trusty and Jock.
Tramp is a mutt from the other side of town, he's scruffy and does what he pleases when he pleases. He doesnt have an owner he just charms the local shops and cafes into giving him food.
These two dogs are very different from each other but one day after a chase from the dog catcher their paths meet and Lady becomes charmed by the handsom stray.
Disaster strikes and when Aunt Sarah comes to look after the new baby and Lady and Tramp are forced into a dangerous adventure that involves lots of lovable characters and scary ones like a great big rat that tries to attack the new baby!
The film has a wonderful ending and it introduces you to some new characters that you will meet when you watch Lady and the Tramp 2.
Although Lady and the Tramp is one of Disney's older films you would never know it. It has been digitaly restored and is much crisper and more colourful than the origional. it also comes with a brilliant selection of special fetures.
Spercial features.
First on disk 1 we have a trivia game either for one person or a family vertion.
Being on my own i played the one person game and was faced with ten questions from other disney movies. The most i got was eight. Shame on me!
The second disk is more exciting.
First i watched some deleted scenes. I was a bit disappointed to find that they are not animated but in story board form with little or no colour.
There is also a short program called Going to the Dogs which is a simple guide to different dog groups, hound, working, herding etc. Its very basic but does show you some other disney dogs and what breed they are.
Next a personality profile, you go through a selection of questions to find out which character in the movie you are. I did this and was pleasantly surprised to find out i was Lady.
There is also a making of Lady and the Tramp which is well worth the watch after the movie as it has lots of interesting going on.
Finally there is the virtual puppy. To use this feature you need to have access to a pc as it will only play over the computer. I had a go and found that it would be great for the kids.
You are faced with a pet shop window containing a number of the characters in the movie as puppies. After choosing one you have to name your pup and put your own name in. You them get an option to print out a certificate and a license. After that you go to a screen with your new pup where you can feed it, give it treats and train it to do tricks. Its quite fun but only for a few minutes. I'm sure children would have more interest than me.
So thats it. This DVD is more than just a film, it has so much more that will keep your children interested for hours.
Like most Disney DVD's it is a tad more pricey. Mine was £18.99 but with it i got a free Lady soft toy which is really cute.
