Lage Raho Munnabhai is one of those rarer sequels which stood upto its brilliant prequel Munnabhai MBBS. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, starring Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi this comedy blends teachings of Gandhi in an urban setting.
Munna is an underworld don who falls in love with a radio jockey called Janvi just by listening to her shows. When Janvi announces that the radio network will arrange a quiz contest on Gandhi's birthday about him,Munna doesn't want to miss the chance. But how can he answer questions on Gandhi when he has no knowledge whatsoever?"Circuit"(Arshad Warsi),his accomplice kidnaps several highly educated people so that they can help Munna answer questions on the phone!
Munna finally wins the contest and has to meet Janvi when he acts to be a history professor!Things take turn for worse when Janvi asks him to meet some close people who incidentally lives in an old house.
We meet "Lucky Singh"(played brilliantly by Boman Irani),who wants to evacuate the old home and build something on it.The fun begins when Munna has to come away from being a gangster and has to practise non violence like Gandhi's teachings. The film is a socio-comedy,pointing out the social problems in today's world and teaching us how non violence can put an end to it. The film never gets preachy and is rather fascinating to watch.
The fact that Munna hallucinates of Gandhi being present with him all the time is certainly a masterpiece from the writing point of view.It adds so much value to the film,Gandhi guiding Munna on every point of his life. The writing is very innovative and will keep surprising you with the way it proceeds, till the end.
Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi bring magic on screen, for the second time after Munnabhai MBBS.Their timing is absolutely mindblowing and the dialogues are funny to say the least.Vidya Balan as the RJ is likable. The guy playing Gandhi(or his ghost) is convincing and does a fine job.
The writing is of high quality:be it screenplay or the dialogues. This film belongs to Rajkumar Hirani-the storyteller. Both his films weave magic.
This is a film you just can't miss!
