The story is the same old “there’s something in the water eating everyone”. The acting leaves a lot to be desired, the “special effects” are somewhat lacking and the killer croc is kind of cute. So why did I like this film?

The film on the whole doesn’t seem to take itself too seriously. There are some very funny lines and scenes in the film which make it worth watching. The though that an elderly lady who lives on the lakeside is basically keeping the killer 30ft crocs as pets and the cattle she breeds are their food is very amusing. It also becomes apparent that her husband was eaten by them a couple of years ago, but she never told anyone in case the crocs were found and killed, so instead she says she murdered him and buried him in the back garden. Not the best cover story.

There are just three or four main characters, some wanting the catch and study the croc, some wanting to kill it and predictably fights ensue. There is also a romance brewing, in fact all the usual plots you would expect from this type of film. The main stars are Bridget Fonda and Bill Pullman, neither in my eyes great actors but both manage to keep the film on track and make it worth watching. The funniest character is a rich crocodile fanatic who manages to get in the way and annoy everyone.

To sum up – the plot is less than original, the croc is less than scary, the effects are not brilliant and the ending is very predictable. On the bright side it is very funny, the acting is amusing and when you have watched it you feel as if you have been entertained.
