After a twenty year gap George A Romero finally managed to produce another entry in his cult 'living dead' series and the results were mixed. Shunning any continuity, Land is not a direct sequel. The zombie crisis doesn't seem any worse than it was in the underrated Day Of The Dead and the characters in this film have modern technology - if society had collapsed in 1985's Day then surely this would be impossible. The centrepiece of Land is Fiddler's Green, a huge shopping mall with luxury apartments. The world as we knew it may have ended but capitalism still thrives. Dennis Hopper (clearly enjoying himself) plays the head of this capitalist enterprise and ... Read the complete review

At some point in the future, the world has been taken over by zombies, and the humans that still remain are forced to lock themselves away in a compound in order to stay alive. The lucky humans live in a beautifully designed high-rise apartment building; the others are forced to live on the streets, scratching a living where they can. Riley and Cholo get to see both worlds - they run a company supplying luxuries to those in the high-rise, particularly the powerful Kaufman. But Cholo has plans to get an apartment in the high-rise through his connection to Kaufman. Will he be successful, or will Kaufman succeed in keeping the riff-raff on the streets? More importantly will ... Read the complete review

I must confess, when news of George A. Romero beginning a fourth instalment in his long running zombie saga broke, I was more than a little apprehensive. The first three films in the series (Night Of The Living Dead, Dawn Of The Dead and Day Of The Dead) are now rightly lauded as classics, each with their own distinctive storyline, yet linking together exceptionally well. Look at 'Night'; the first unsuspecting humans happen across the new terror of this soon-to-be zombie plague. Immediate shelter is needed to ride out what presumably for them will be only one night of terror, so get holed up where you can. The film even ends with hope, with local hicks piling ... Introduction ---------------- It’s often stated that George A Romero directed a new zombie film in every one of the last four decades. In fact, this is not true. The last true Romero zombie film (Day of the Dead) was released in 1985, and that was it, until 2005 when he came back with Land of the Dead. So, has a 20 year absence blunted the zombie king’s ability to mix entertainment and blood with social messages? Only one way to find out… read on! The Plot ----------- As with most Romero films, the plot is very simple. Having lost the war against the zombies, survivors have created safe havens in some of the cities. In one particular city, ... I've never been that sure of zombie movies. It's true, I love horror movies in general but all that shuffling and desperation for brains never really did grip me. However, the 1968 “Night of the Living Dead” which was followed by the satirical “Dawn of the Dead” in 1978 and then re-made in 2004 changed my mind. It wasn't just the adrenaline rush of rampant horror but more the deftness of the story. Of course, this is all relative. Two decades on and George A Romero, the most famous of zombie movie makers, has returned to the big screen with his latest adaptation of the zombie story in the guise of "Land of the Dead" Set in an apocalyptic future, ...
