Well the Americans have done it, and the Brits have done. They have all made a huge variety of zombie movies. Now it is Australia's time. The movie follows the standard rules of most Zombie films. We join a group of people whom are surviving day by day against the zombies, suddenly a way of salvation presents itself and suddenly the group starts decreasing and getting bitten.
Story (May contain spoilers)
During the credits we get the introduction to the spreading of the virus, no cure, and the only way to deal with the infected is decapitation. We then start the movie with 3 lads all sharing a house, Johnny a martial arts fighting expert, Johnny a lout, willing to have a good fight, but generally thinks only of himself and Ash, a well meaning weak individual who is scared of all things.
These 3 individuals just drift from house to house, avoiding contact with all zombies, this way they are surviving quite well, until they come across another survivor a scientist, who needs to get a sample of the infected blood, process it and take it to Stewart Island where a number of scientists are hold up.
The four of them decide to go for it, they all venture to a hospital where they manage to obtain a sample of blood and start the processing. Only 3 manage to escape the hospital where they next head to the airport, where their numbers drop further.
Will they get to the Island? Will a cure be found? Will they save the world?
I have not seen many Australian movies, but this was alright, it was a typical Zombie movie. The acting was convincing for all of the characters including the zombies.
The gore was realistic as per a 2008 zombie movie. There were no other special effects than this, but this was all that was needed. It was convincing.
Overall this was a pretty good movie. It is good to see some other countries having a go at the classic Zombie genre. They didn't try and ruin it by inventing some strange new set of rules, they stuck to a well tried formula and it worked.
If you're a fan of zombie movies I'd definitely recommend seeing this one. It certainly is not a blockbuster but it is still good.
