Advantages: Daniel Craig is brilliant, more grown up than Lock Stock

Disadvantages: Title of film gives you no clue as to what it's about (im struggling for disadvantages!)

Layercake is a film by Matthew Vaughn who was producer on Lock Stock, Snatch and Mean Machine. Although closely related, Layercake is almost a million miles away from "Bullet Tooth Tony" and "Hatchet Harry".

The story is about Daniel Craig's character and his "final" drug deal that will earn him enough to retire very happily on. He knows you can't go on forever in the dark business of drug sales and is sensible enough to want to get out. However, after a deal goes wrong he becomes involved in a murderous trail to locate Michael Gambon's daughter and the missing drugs. He must overcome a brutal Serbian gang and deal with double crossing from all sides.

I really enjoyed this film. It brought Daniel Craig to my attention and he plays a fantastic role. With great support from Michael Gambon, Colm Meaney and a host of recognisable faces from British tv and film. Drugs aren't glamorised in this film but we can see a rich and affluent side to London not seen in Lock Stock. It seems more sensible. It looks stylish and is beautifully shot with Vaughn making great use of some of London's great locations. It also has a wonderful soundtrack and some very good and often funny dialogue.

I think this is a fantastic film and one of my favourite British films of the last 10years. I heard a rumour that the James Bond producers seen Layercake and decided that Daniel Craig was there new James Bond. And from this performance you can see why.

Summary: The Stylish side of London Gangsters
