He wants to find a way to resurrect his fledgling team, and so recruits a budding football star, Carter "the Bullet" Rutherford (the US version of The Office star John Krasinski), to join the team. He also hopes to emphasise the fact that not only is Carter good looking, biut he served in the Great War. Everything seems to go well until Lexie Littleton, a reporter for the...more

Premium Review Leatherheads (DVD): Leatherheads! (264 words)
by - written on 26/08/09 (Very useful, 2 readings)
Rating:

Directed by george Clooney leatherheads is a film about an aging football star in the mid 20's who recruits a war hero and all round perfect star to play for his team to bring a bit of star to the game. ufortunatly for both Rene Zellwegers Reporter tries to expose the Young Cater Rutherford and question his past war heroics. The film is a Romantic comedy but has some great underlying issues such as the media turning someone into a star despite not knowing all the truths and the public believing the hype as a way of hope. The film also seems to play on the way football has changed and highlights how it has turned into much more of a commercial ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Sassy 20s (814 words)

A lot can be said about the acting talent of Renee Zellweger, but most of it will be negative. Her pinched expression reminds me of one of those disturbing adverts on TV were women talk about their bowels and their inability to 'go'. If Zellweger's squinting eyes, pursed lips and malnourished form are anything to go by she has probably not been since the last 'Bridget Jones' film. The only way for a Zellweger film to work is distract the viewer with a smug leading man. Who smugger than George - smoother than a melted Galaxy bar found behind radiator - Clooney? With these titans of annoyance together on screen can magic happen, or will I end up regretting ever ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Clooneys homage to classic Hollywood (441 words)
by - written on 15/09/08 (Very useful, 41 readings)
Rating:

Leatherheads is one of only a handful of films directed by George Clooney. Set in the 1920's against a backdrop of American Football, the film focuses on Jimmy 'Dodge' Connelly (Clooney) and his hit and miss relationship with both Carter Rutherford (John Krasinski) - the new star player, and journalist Lexie Littleton (played by Renee Zelwegger). I must admit only going to see this film at the cinema due to nothing else of interest being on at the time. Although I rate Clooney as an actor, I wasn't sure what sort of film his directorial skills would result in. From the off, I felt like Clooney was trying to recreate the comedic, witty feel of the ...  Read the complete review

Nothing comes between love like a little competition. Leatherheads is a 2008 movie staring George Clooney - enough said!! Well, I should probably say a bit more about the film apart from George Clooney who as well as staring in the film directed it as well! The film is a romantic comedy set in the 1920's but I would say is not your typical Rom Com. George plays Dodge Connolly, an aging football player (American football) who signs up a new rising star to his team to try and revive the fortunes of the team. The new star is called Carter "The Bullet" Rutherford who is played by John Krasinski (he is in the American version of the office). The ...  Read the complete review
