Advantages: Performances

Disadvantages: Nick Cage's downfall

I write this review with a heavy heart because after this film Nicolas Cage nosedived and has only pulled his head out of water with a couple of films.

I am not your typical reviewer where i will give you a plot synopsis, tell you what happens and then give away the end because i still think this website is about opinions.

Leaving Las Vegas is simply one of the best films ever made no questions asked.

The film is a about a alcoholic (Nic Cage) with nothing left that decides to move to Las Vegas with a very clear plan and that is to drink himself to death. He Allocates his budget to allow for alcohol consumption and perhaps a bit of fun. He meets a prostitute (Elizabeth Shue) and they form a unlikely and very tempestuous relationship.

The film then embroils into a love story like no other, a man trying to drink himself to death and a prostitute that is his salvation. It full of happy moments and utter tragedy the film really cant be explained it needs to be seen

Director Mike Figgis handles the subjects of alcoholism and prostitution with a slight of hand ive never seen because you can find yourself shocked by the actions of the characters at times but you truely believe them so you have empathy.

The performance by Nick Cage is wonderful beyond words and it makes me wonder why he takes such bad films now, Elizabeth Shue is tremendous as the the support to a film that needed very very strong performances to make it viable.

Mike Figgis handles this film with the care and upmost respect it deserves and shows a horrible disease to have the highs and lows as all addiction has.

I Adore this film its always my number 2 in my all time movies its just a crying shame that Nic Cage isnt a real actor anymore

Summary: Beautiful and Tragic
