Big is the stand up show that comedian Lee Evans toured with in 2008. The final show and the one at which this DVD was filmed took place at London's 02 in front of over 16,000 people. The DVD and therefore Evans' routine lasts for an outstanding 2 hours 45 minutes and I can safely promise that every second is nothing less than absolute hilarity. Before watching this DVD I definitely wasn't a fan of Lee Evans, in fact I couldn't stand him. Until I gave him a real chance the clips and bit performances I had so far witnessed left me convinced that Evans was crude, foul-mouthed and barely amusing. After a single viewing of Big I can say that I now stand corrected.

In Big Evans is on top form hitting his audience with joke after joke. Covering a range of topics from women to his family life to sport to the NHS Evans makes everything seem funny. He is probably not the most original of comedians but the level of physical comedy used in Big is second to none. He has perfected his particular brand of comedy and sticks to it confidently. Jokes roll smoothly into one another and there are no awkward pauses.

Though the amount of sweat the man produces is both astounding and pretty disgusting it's good to see that he can make a joke of it particularly in the DVD's introduction scene where he pretends that his sweat has flooded the room. I thought this was a nice little touch that led well into the live show.

At the end of the show Evans performs one of his musical skits which people tell me he tends to do at the end of many of his stand up gigs. Now I found this to be an entertaining watch but didn't roar with laughter as I did for the rest of the DVD. I admit it made the comedy routine feel like a real show with a grand finale but I myself prefer a more traditional approach to comedy. A simple encore with a few more hilarious jokes would have been good enough for me.

The only negative points I can make about Big are that Evans probably swears a little too much for some people (though no more than the likes of Russell Brand or Frankie Boyle) and he can occasionally be a little crude. Also, he is by no means an edgy comic and does not touch on any really controversial or surrealist topics.

Big is rated 15 which I think is fair due to the amount of swearing which occurs during the show. Therefore if you're easily offended by this it is probably best to avoid this DVD. However, that said the content itself is not particularly offensive when comparing the routine to that of other comedians.

In conclusion Big is a very funny stand up comedy DVD from one of Britain's most popular comedians. Evans has clearly worked hard to produce such a brilliant and lengthy show and does not disappoint. He never seems arrogant and at times you can see he is genuinely overwhelmed by the rapturous reception he receives. Big is a hilarious and very energetic watch that I would definitely recommend. Roll on the laughter!

Summary: A great DVD by a great comedian.

Went to see him in Glasgow, was sursprised how long it went on. 2-3 shows worth in one, good value. Shame the seats were very uncomfortable.

To be honest, I've never given Lee Evans a real chance either - all I know is that I feel exhausted just watching him on stage - but I might get this DVD and give him a proper chance now! Great review! x
