I don’t know about you but there is a part of me that, when I’m watching Lord of the Rings, wants Middle Earth to be real and the good guys to be like Viggo Mortensen and Orlando Bloom and the bad guys to be easily identifiable because they’re so damn ugly. When I watched The Last Unicorn, I wanted unicorns to be real. What if Lara Croft really existed? Life would be so much more interesting if Batman was real, preferably in his George Clooney incarnation! Of all of that lot, though, I would prefer Lord of the Rings to be real, and if it were I would be straight down the estate agents to check out real estate prices near Rivendell (although I ... LEGEND is the movie Ridley Scott directed after making BLADE RUNNER and this is a much better movie in my opinion. It stars Tim Curry as the Lord of Darkness who wants to rule the world, but who is unable to have absolute power while unicorns still roam the earth. This demon also decides that he wants to marry the Princess Lily, who is loved by Jack, played by Tom Cruise. As you can no doubt tell from the storyline information above, LEGEND is a movie fairy tale and is a good one at that. There are numerous different versions of the film, with differences including added scenes, changes in character motivations and also differences in musical score – one ... Read the complete review

The first thing to be said about this film is that it is stunningly beautiful. The magical woodland is a mixture of real and fantasy element and the underground home of the villain is harsh, red-toned and contrastingly unnatural. The story is populated largely by fantasy characters. Tom Cruise plays Jack, a Puck-like woodland being and friend to Princess Lily, the other major character. However, the woodland is also populated by other mythical creatures including two very beautiful unicorns. Jack takes Lily into the woodland to see the unicorns but the impetuous Lily decides to pet one of them, giving the villains of the piece a chance to kill it ... Read the complete review
