Nonsensical Angels with guns claptrap
Member Name: huggy2009
Disadvantages: Awful, just terrible in every way
Legion is based on a popular comic book about God sending angels to bring apocolypse upon the earth and recreate the planet in a manner he wants it.
The film has a religious undertone, god is tired of man's foibles and decides he should destroy mankind by sending a swarm of angels to earth to turn his flock into Zombies. The Archangel Michael(Paul Bettany) doesn't agree with this and decides to protect the planet, however the has to contend with god's right hand man, the Archangel Gabriel (Kevin Durand) who is a big chap with a lot of special powers.
Man's fate relies upon Michaels need to ensure that the unborn child of an American waitress (Adrianne Palicki) is saved as he could be the saviour of mankind. We are then treated to a kind of Escape from Precinct 13 style film as the Archangel Michael and the ragtag diners of the Paradise Falls restaurant battle against the angels bringing on the apocalypse.
People in the restaurant include Denis Quaid as the rough tough restaurant owner, Tyrese Gibson as a heroic diner. Will Michael be able to save mankind and avert the apocalypse?

I have spoken with a learned friend who is a real comic book obsessive and he explained that the comic book series from which this was derived was a really intelligent one which looked at religion in a sparky and thoughtful way.
This film unfortunately is a mess, there is no other word for it, it is an unfortunate mess, angels with bullet proof wings!!!
When you look at this objectively the main premise of the film is a few people fighting god and his legion of angels in a diner in mid-america, they have had no problems taking out armies, cities and yet this small diner is the key. Its ridiculous, the acting is too serious, there are no moments of levity which would have been perfect set against such a ridiculous premise.
The religious undertones are obvious and thoughtless while the special effects are dated and weak. The characters are stereotypes from the Black rap loving gun toter to the hick with a shotgun, it just doesn't ring true in anyway and the film is embarrassing throughout.
The acting is bland and it does seem like the actors are fully aware how awful this film is. Somewhere in translation it lost an awful lot and this is a proper turkey. It is full of silly little speeches made in all seriousness, action which to my mind was comedic rather than scary and a premise which verges on awful.
I like Paul Bettany but his performance is phoned in, the use of angels is silly and the plot jumps about without explaining itself meaning your not quite sure why people are doing things or what the motivation is. This is a bad film, really not good in anyway.
The film has the premise of terminator where a hero is sent to protect an unborn baby, but the action is dull, the use of angels with guns and slow zombies is pretty boring and you do just wonder what the point of any of it was!
Criminally the DVD is £12.99 on Play.com, do what I did if you really have to watch this and lend it from Lovefilm or Blockbuster, but it is a real mess, in every way this film is awful.
