Lethal Weapon 2 (DVD) ... / DVD released 22 March, 1999 at Warner Home Video / Features of the DVD: PAL, Widescreen / The series formula started to kick in with this immediate sequel to Lethal Weapon, but that doesn't necessarily make it a weak movie. Joe Pesci joins the fold, Richard Donner directs again, and Mel Gibson and Danny Glover return as LAPD partners, their relationship smoother now that Gibson's character has recovered from his maddening grief over his wife's death. But the reckless Mel and cautious Danny equation, good for a million laughs, settles into place in this story involving a South African smuggler and a new girlfriend (Patsy Kensit) for Gibson. The movie is hardly comfy, though. The last act gets nasty, and a climactic fight between Gibson (who gets the worst of it) and some high-kicking villain is ugly. --Tom Keogh

... witness that needs protecting, and to be honest that is where most of the gold from this film comes from. Pesci is just wonderful in this film, stealing many of the scenes. He is great as a tough guy, but also equally able to make you laugh; it must be that voice! Gibson and Glover are back on form with their brilliant chemistry. Glover adds the sour personality which contrasts brilliantly with Gibson's humour. The two have a great back and forth banter which is wonderful to see on the screen. Again, as with the first ...more

Premium Review Lethal Weapon 2 (DVD): Lethal acting (303 words)

Rating:

Thankfully the writers put a little more effort into coming up with a plot than they did when it came to coming up for a title to this follow up to the hugely successful first Lethal Weapon Film. Mel Gibson and Danny Glver return as Riggs and Murtach, the Los Angeles police detectives, thistime they are battling against some South African drug dealers in which the story attempts to paint the white rulers of Soutth Africa in as bad a light as possible, naturally the film has little relevance to the political climate of today but some sneering racists pompous white drug dealers makes for a pretty easy group of villains to hate. There is more of a ...  Read the complete review

Lethal Weapon 2 is the second film in the police buddy comedy series starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover. It was released in 1989, and tells the story of Riggs and Murtaugh on the case of South African criminals who are using their political immunity to run riot. When a film comes back for a sequel, it has to offer something different too, and this film does that. Joe Pesci plays the role of a witness that needs protecting, and to be honest that is where most of the gold from this film comes from. Riggs has shaken off his depression and Murtaugh and he are now a tight knit, lethal pairing however not disimilar to a married couple. After the crash of a car the pair were pursuing they discover a boot full of illegal Krugerrands, with the driver of the vehicle unexplicably escaping Riggs and Murtaugh have no lead suspects. Until that very night Murtaugh is confronted in his home by mysterious hooded figures who tie him and his wife up and warn him to stop investigating the illegal Krugerrands. Premium Review Lethal Weapon 2 (DVD): Diplomatic Immunity! (456 words)
by - written on 17/08/08 (Very useful, 62 readings)
Rating:

The collaboration between director Richard Donner and actors Mel Gibson and Danny Glover continues with a foreign theme here, as the Lethal Weapon series takes its second film into a South African laden plot once again involving drugs. The franchise waited a mere two years before making the sequel to the immensely successful Lethal Weapon in 1987, and this 1989 film was also popular, and featured the introduction of a new character in the form of Leo getz, played by Joe Pesci. The Plot Riggs and Murtaugh are chalk and cheese. The detective coupling don't always get along, but there is no denying how good they are. Following a car chase, they ...  Read the complete review
