Life On Mars: Complete BBC Series 2 (DVD) ... Entertainment Group / Features of the DVD: Box set, PAL / It’s hard to believe it’s over. Life On Mars shot out of nowhere at the beginning of 2006 to become a vital, gripping drama, and this second series more than maintains the sky high standards that the first so memorably set. What makes it even more surprising is that all the ingredients were there for it to go so tragically wrong. The central premise, that for unknown reasons modern day police detective Sam Tyler wakes up in the 1970s, is fraught with potential potholes, yet the creators of Life On Mars twist it very much in their favour, delivering a skilful, taut comparison between policing then and policing now. It’s this clash of approach that provides many of Life On Mars’ sparks, but nonetheless, it has much more than that going for it. It boasts, for instance, a terrific level of attention to detail, and weaves in quality narrative too, with Tyler frequently caught between unravelling his predicament, the crimes before him, and his 1970s’ colleagues with their 1970s’ tactics. This second, and final, series wraps things up surprisingly well, and consistently delivers laughs, action and plenty of pub talk off the back of it. It’s also a delight to revisit Life On Mars, and that makes this collected boxset of the episodes of season two an absolute must for any fan of gritty, interesting and terrifically entertaining British drama. Quite, quite brilliant. --Jon Foster

... & are played by the same cast. Series 2 for me is just as good as the first series. There is intrigue & mystery surrounding Sam's predicament. There are lots of funny one liners from all the characters providing a comedy element & as ever there is the modern attitude to 70's ideals issue as we view the 70's through Sam's eyes. The ending (which I won't detail thoroughly) is definite & does bring the story to a firm conclusion without really explaining what happened to Sam. I was happy with the ending al...more

The second series of the critically acclaimed Kudos/BBC drama made it's epic return on February 13th 2007. Being hooked by the edgy characters and fascinating storylines of the first series, I was under no circumstances positive that I would be watching the follow up. Back story: The first series of 'Life On Mars' created a new twist in the sometimes generic world of cop shows, crossing genres with sci-fi and comedy elements to make a memorable package. Starting out with twenty-first century cop Sam Tyler, a bloke that prides himself on being politically correct and playing 'by the book', his whole world is soon turned upside down after a car ...  Read the complete review

The original series of Life on Mars was an unexpected hit. Telling the tale of Sam Tyler, who has an accident and wakes up to find himself in 1970s Britain, it became the must-watch programme of 2006. Second series are always difficult: do you try and expand the original or simply give the viewer more of the same? Life on Mars mostly chooses this second route. More police drama, more culture-clash comedy and more Gene Hunt. Because, let's face it, that's what we all really want. He may be an unreconstructed racist, sexist pig, but Gene Hunt is a great character, brilliantly played by Philip Glenister. He should be the most unlikeable character in the world and ...  Read the complete review

Life on Mars was definitely my favourite TV programme and probably still is. Series one was fantastic and series two simply picked up from where it left off **************************************************** NB: I apologise now if you feel I have included too many quotes, I just wanted to highlight how good I feel the show is. **************************************************** Life on Mars tells the story of Sam Tyler, a police officer, who after being hit by a car woke up in 1973. He constantly questions his own sanity and at the beginning of each episode Sam's voice is always heard to say "Am I mad, in a coma, or back in time? ...  Read the complete review

This is the second and final series of the crime drama produced for the BBC. It is 15 rated, 8 episodes long and each episode is approximately 53 minutes. It contains some strong language and some offensive references. Please also see my review of the first season for a fuller explanation. This continues the story from the first season with Sam Tyler still living in 1973 working as DI in the Manchester police department. The format has not changed from the first season: the main characters, actors and the format are the same. Each week Sam and the team - Gene, Annie, Ray and Chris - investigate a different crime ranging from wages robberies to ...  Read the complete review

I have just finished watching both series of this fantastic show and now I'm having withdrawal symptoms and yearning for my nightly 1970's fix (sometimes we even watched two episodes a night-I live life on the edge as you can tell!).Life On Mars:Series Two was released on dvd in April 2007, but if you are like me and have been living under a rock and not heard of this show, or simply watched it on BBC2 previously but want to watch it over and over (which no doubt I will be),then you can't do any worse than buying this and the first series. Series Two~ Series one is about Sam Tyler, a detective who after a near fatal road accident wakes up in ...  Read the complete review
