Advantages: Excellent effects, truly unique.
Disadvantages: Awful unless you love trashy cinema
Yes, Patrick Stewart goes above and beyond the call of duty in one of the most truly bizarre studio pics of the '80s. Tobe Hooper directed this movie, the basic plot of which is a ludicrous as most of the events within it. A UK/USA mission to Halley's Comet comes across a giant spacecraft filled with giant bats, and three naked people ( a woman and two men). On their way back, there is an unexplained accident which leaves the crew dead but those three alive. Once back on Earth (London), the woman wakes up and sucks the lifeforce out of a scientist, who then comes back to life and does the same again... Among some excellent effects ( I love the exploding living dessicated corpses), there are some truly bizarre effects, made more surreal by the fact that most of the cast seems to be made up of Royal Shakespeare actors on their day off! An excellent movie if you're in the right mood, and probably the last remotely decent movie Hooper ever made.
