Premium Review Lion King II: Simba's Pride (DVD): Disney's Pride Too (1716 words)

------------ The Movie ------------ Lion King II: Simba's Pride is a sequel to the film Lion King. The storyline puts Kiara, Simba's daughter, as the main character to which the story evolves. This is a direct-to-video film so it didn't have the chance to be seen on the big screen unlike the first Lion King movie which gained much popularity and media mileage. I personally didn't even know there was a sequel until I saw the poster online. I loved the first Lion King film so I decided to watch this one. The Plot -------------------- The young Kiara -------------------- The movie starts with Rafiki (the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Not something to have much pride over (277 words)

When it comes to sequels of children's animations, I find you very rarely get a good result. Film makers often choose a sentimental reappearing of characters over story, and the result is nothing but a corny homage to the first film. Simba's Pride is the sequel to the much-loved Lion King. The story revolves around the off-spring of Simba battling it out with the offspring of Scar. Kiara, the lovable daughter of Simba, befriends the mysterious Kovu before their ancestry becomes clear. This film is a cross between the first movie and Romeo and Juliet, to which it owes much of its plot. In fact, if Shakespeare were alive he would surely sue for ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Better than the usual Disney Sequel (196 words)
by - written on 11/11/00 (Very useful, 232 readings)
Rating:

Although this sequel was released directly to the ‘Sell-through’ market it is of a better quality than similar Disney sequels. It easily surpasses the two Aladdin sequels and Pochahontas 2 in its production quality but falls just short of the standard required for a cinema release. It is let down by the story line which shows little imagination and amounts to a clichéd re-telling of a theme seen a thousand times. A lot of the original character voices from the first film are retained and Matthew Broderick and Neve Campbell are recruited as the principle ‘Stars’. The animation is of the highest quality and the soundtrack, though not ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Lion King II: Simba's Pride (DVD): The Lions Pride (244 words)

Rating:

The Lion King II Simba's Pride is a sequel to a Disney work of art. We pick up the story as the lion king, Simba and Nala have a new baby cub, a girl named Kiara. Like her father she seeks adventure and ends up outside the Pridelands, where lions loyal to Scar lived with revenge in their hearts. The leader, Zira schemes to use her son Kovu to destroy Simba. As it turns out, Kiara bumped into Kovu and fell in love. As always with Disney things Work out in the end. Once again Disney turned out a true work of art for children, the sequel will be a great favourite. The antics of Timon and Pumba are great fun and enjoyable, and there's plenty of ...  Read the complete review
