Advantages: A good looking, nice sounding film

Disadvantages: Dull story line, bare DVD

Although this sequel was released directly to the ‘Sell-through’ market it is of a better quality than similar Disney sequels. It easily surpasses the two Aladdin sequels and Pochahontas 2 in its production quality but falls just short of the standard required for a cinema release.
It is let down by the story line which shows little imagination and amounts to a clichéd re-telling of a theme seen a thousand times.
A lot of the original character voices from the first film are retained and Matthew Broderick and Neve Campbell are recruited as the principle ‘Stars’. The animation is of the highest quality and the soundtrack, though not reaching the dizzy heights of the first film, is still very, very good with Tina turner recruited for the stand out track.
At 78 minutes the film is about the right length and represents a very enjoyable experience.
Unfortunately, as with all of Disney’s Region 2 DVDs, this disc represents very little in terms of value for money. The extra features amount to just ‘Scene access’ and it is only the benefit of Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound that make the DVD a worth while buy.
