Advantages: Very Funny and Very Sad
Disadvantages: None
This film is about the ultimate dysfunctional family!
The Mother Sheryl Hoover (Toni Collette), is over stressed, the Father Richard (Greg Kinnear), is a motivational speaker, the Son Dwayne (Paul Danno), has taken a vow of silence until he becomes a pilot, the Grandfather Edwin (Alan Arkin), is a drug addict, and the Uncle Frank (Steve Carell), tried to kill himself. The only normal one is the Daughter (Abigail Breslin), a seven year old girl named Olive who is hooked on beauty pageants.
You wouldnt think of her as a Beauty Queen as she wears glasses and doesnt dress like all the other girls do in these competitions.
The story is Olive gets through to a beauty pageant but to get there it will take a couple of days driving, so the whole family embark on a road trip to get there.
This film is a comedy but it had me crying in parts too. I dont want to give a lot away but if anything can go wrong it does! It ends in the pageant with Olive on stage and the dance she does is very unconventional and is hilarious with her family coming on stage and dancing with her! This film is fantastic, with lots of humour and lots of very touching sad parts. I love it and I am sure you will too.
Summary: A touching, Heartwarming Film
