... 'how's your father'. Throw in a power cut and Horrocks singing a ditty in order to block out the noise of her mother and guest and wonder of all wonders boyfriend has found a star and proceeds to make her famous... Of course that's not quite the end of the story! LV is less than taken with the idea and tragedy inevitably strikes before the film concludes. This isn't a bad film but like most British comedies it plods along rather slowly and holds few surprises. The comedy is rather stale, the characters s...more

Now that I've got your attention, I'll explain. This film is about LV's (played by Jane Horrocks) little world which she retreats to as a result of being left alone with her intolerable and foul-mouthed Mother (played superbly, by Brenda Blethyn) when her Father dies. Throughout, her Dad is there as a fantasy figure who shows up whenever LV is under pressure. His picture is over her bed and her only 'friends' are the records which he left when he died, from which she has constructed an entire world. It is from these records that she is able to create the voice with which she can shine out from her own world, notably whenever she sings, but ...  Read the complete review

Little voice...Big impression !!! (293 words)

Well I watched this film with no idea of what it was about. I had read no reviews but decided to watch it anyway. I did not know what to expect but was drawn in from the start. Jane horrocks plays a clinically shy girl who has a hidden talent. Her mother is an extrovert, played well by Brenda Blethyn, who gets on your nerves but that is the idea!!! It soon becomes apparent that the daughter LV...Little Voice (Jane Horrocks) may have a reason for her unwillingness to speak. Michael cane plays a seedy talant scout who whilst dating LV's mother overhears LV sing. LV has shut herself off from the outside world and her love of music seems her only ...  Read the complete review

Little Voice (DVD): Little Voice (121 words)

It seems impossible that the actress, who portrayed Bubble, in Absolutely Fabulous, could have such a huge talent. Jane Horrocks shows her amazing ability to mimic some of the best-loved voices of all times. Her Shirley Bassey left me aghast. A simple storyline, with Jane excelling as the introvert, Little Voice. A nickname could hardly be less accurate. When LV stands on the stage, and sees |”her father” in the audience, it is as if she is possessed by the essence of the stars that she mimics. Watch this movie, and spend the rest of the day with a smile on your face. Amazing performances from Michael Caine and Brenda Blethyn ...  Read the complete review

Little Voice has to be seen (289 words)

It's about Little Voice (played by an amazingly talented Jane Horrocks, where did this girl come from?), a young woman with a voice that's barely above a whisper. And living with her mother (played by the enjoyable Brenda Blethyn), I can understand why. But LV has got something about her. When she wants to express herself she opens up her mouth and sings. What I was suprised to learn was that Ms.Horrocks does all of her own singing, which is amazing!Little Voice comes out of her shell and sweeps an audience off their feet with her incredible stage presence, and her even more surprising knack for flawlessly emulating the voices of her favorite sirens. , this film .  Read the complete review

Little Voice (DVD): Big on Voice Little on Script (645 words)

Lured by a Virgin.net promotion where if you bought 2 dvd's for £20 they'ld throw in two free cinema tickets ( keep an eye on the site they do this regularly! ) I abandoned my usual reservations about British comedies and added 'Little Voice' to my shopping basket. Being a fan of Jane Horrocks, and not adverse to a little Ewan McGregor either!, I assumed that this film would be a fairly safe bet. Add Brenda Blethyn ( nominated for an Academy Award as Best Suporting Actress ) and Micheal Caine and you would think success was assured... unfortunately not even it's stars could save it! For those of you that don't know the story ...  Read the complete review
