Advantages: Samuel L Jackson

Disadvantages: Very corny

Loaded Weapon may be a very low rent spoof, but I'll be damned if I didn't laugh - this is a dumb, fun ride, and makes no apologies for it. The spoof is generally quite an acquired taste, and this is incredibly reminiscent of the Naked Gun films. Coming from Gene Quintano, who wrote several of the Police Academy sequels, it's not really any surprise.

That said, it really is lowest common denominator humour, and I find that it's best approached either when innebriated, or when in a particularly good mood. If tackled with a cynical mind, this is only going to give you a big headache. It curiously stars Samuel L Jackson in some sure role of desperation that bridges him between his 1991 Goodfellas role and when he finally struck it big with Pulp Fiction. Emilio Estevez slums it as usual in the 1990s, but there are some pretty big laughs throughout - it's just a shame they're sandwiched with some truly unholy material. There's also a wealth of cameos from now established stars such as Whoopi Goldberg, Tim Curry (probably the funniest of all, as a Wilderness girl selling cookies), and Jon Lovitz as a dying man.

An exceedingly silly Zucker-esque comedy that delivers occasional moments of hilarity, yet is stilted by its own flagrant goofiness. The likes of Samuel L Jackson and Whoopi Goldberg deserve better than this.

Summary: Corny but somewhat fun
