In 2004, Ewan McGregor and his best friend and fellow thespian, Charley Boorman, made a 20,000 mile trip by motorcycle around the world, crossing 3 continents and 15 countries. Accompanied by a third rider and cameraman, Claudio Von Planta, and a small support crew, their journey began in London and finished some 4 months later in New York. SERIES OUTLINE The series is divided nicely into seven easily digested episodes which are split over the 2 discs. Episode 1 This feels like a double-length episode, but I suppose it’s because there is so much initially to take in. Here, we’re introduced to Charley Boorman, Ewan ... Read the complete review

Long Way Round is the epic adventure undertaken by Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman in 2004 to travel from London to New York...the long way, through Europe to Far East Russia, and then across to Canada and the USA. It first aired on Sky One, and it was there that I watched it for the first time. I've been a fan of Ewan McGregor for a long time (interesting fact - he went to school with my cousin) and when I saw the adverts the show was promoted more about motorbikes than the journey, but I decided to watch it as I like him. And that, as they say, was that...I was hooked. The original TV release was 7 episodes, each of one hour but with ad breaks, so ... Read the complete review

'A Long Way Round' was the first long-distance motorbike trip conducted by Charley Boorman and Ewan McGregor. Since completing this one, which took them round the world they have done another one taking them around the world the other way 'A Long Way Down'. I personally only really saw the end of this series and then the whole of the Long Way Down series when they were on the television but really enjoyed what I saw. For this reason I decided to purchase this DVD so that I could see the whole story. This DVD includes the complete TV series, 7 hour-long episodes, plus some unseen trip footage, a photo gallery and an exclusive post trip interview. The 7 ... Read the complete review

I sat down to watch this special edition dvd after buying it for my boyfriend for christmas, I didn't have particularly high hopes as it didn't sound to appealing to me watchin a bunch of men on motorbikes. It sounded like it would be a boys and their toys documentary. I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw though, it was very interesting with a lot of information on different cultures and some comedy along the way. My personal favourite bit was during the ride along the road of bones as there were a few tense exciting moments where the team really pull together and show what they are made of, your not sure if they will make it and by this point you have gone so far ... I've always been a big fan of Ewan McGregor, and two Christmases I sat down and realised there was nothing on. I started to flick through the channels and found 'Long Way Round'. I wasn't a bit fan of documentaries back then, especially ones about motorbikes and going around the world, they used to bore me silly, but it was Ewan McGregor so I thought I'd give it a chance. It is probably the most fantastic piece of documentary that I've ever seen. ------------- The Plot ------------- When old friends Ewan McGregor & Charley Boorman set out to follow two of their passions they never imagined what an experience it would be. ...
