The Star...Eric Cantona! Genre...'Dromedy' (drama-comedy) Suited for....Adults With the postal strike depressing us all right now then why not a topical film about a depressed postman to cheer us all up, 'Looking for Eric', directed by the rebellious director Ken Loach, certainly one to lift some of your anxieties if your waiting on your student loan cheque or hoping your credit card payment made it. This is great stuff and I now have a clear front runner for the Best British film of the year to just edge The Dammned United, the BAFTAs sure to embrace this delightful mix of humour and poignant comment on the male mid-life crisis. Not only ...  Read the complete review

Looking For Eric - DVD Directed by: Ken Loach Year - 2009 Running time: approx 116 minutes Certificate: 15 'Orse went t bar - bar-man said why the long face?' ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Two brass monkeys for the budget of this English cinematic experience, several lets get the local bar in on the act scenes, a run-down house full of wood-worm tiny cubby-holes and dirty sheets, a washed-up ex-Manchester legend feeling his way around Socrates, not the Brazilian Soccer star. A load of best mates with semi funny gaffs, and there you have it a Director Ken Loach in his local pub watching Sky Sports. This is so ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review Looking For Eric (DVD): Come on Eric, where are you? (1213 words)
by - written on 29/06/09 (Very useful, 99 readings)
Rating:

Bitter-sweet: two words that could almost have been invented for Director Ken Loach, and he's not a man about to buck the trend which has gained him significant critical (if not necessarily commercial) success over the years. His latest, Looking for Eric, is probably one of his more accessible films. It examines the life of a depressed and lonely postman, Eric; a man on the verge of a nervous breakdown who starts to put his life back together following some coaching from his hero and Manchester United football legend Eric Cantona. That might not sound "accessible" or a barrel of laughs, but in common with many other Loach films, it's well worth your ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Looking For Eric (DVD): Looking for Eric: "Sometimes we forget you're just a man" (518 words)
by - written on 11/10/09 (Very useful, 65 readings)
Rating:

Looking for Eric is the latest movie from long time English director Ken Loach and written by Paul Laverty. The film revolves around two characters called Eric (Bishop and Cantona), almost like some kind of little and large double act. Manchester Postman Eric Bishop is on the rebound from two failed marriages, his head is all over the place and he's on the verge of a mental breakdown. Now living with his two step sons from marriage number two, who are getting more and more involved with criminal behaviour. His daughter from his first marriage now has a daughter of her own (his granddaughter) and due to babysitting arrangements his life is forced to cross over ...  Read the complete review
