Advantages: great film and cast.

Disadvantages: the length might put people off

I am not ashamed in admitting that I'm a massive fan of Lord of the Rings. Some might say that it's a bit of an unhealthy liking for the whole topic. I even have 'the one ring' on a necklace chain, although I did purchase that a long time ago so it isn't quite so bad. It seems only natural that I write a review on my favourite of the 3 films, I'm just going to ignore the fact that there's already been over 170 people have already written their point of view and that a lot of us know all there is to know about the film.

The Fellowship of the Ring was released in 2001 and was directed by Peter Jackson, who also directed numbers 2 & 3 and helping out with making The Hobbit. The film kicks off with the voice of Galadriel, showing the forging of the one ring by Sauron in order to rule over the lands of Middle Earth. After that first sequence you know for definet that you're in for a treat.

This ring is the caralyst for all the events which come about for it can yield its own kind of power, almost twisting the mind of the person who owns it. Even leading them to their own death. The ring only sees itself as having one true owner-Sauron.

When the wise old wizard Gandalf realises that this ring has been under his nose for all this time he knows that he has to act fast. The longer it lingers in the shire, the more danger the hobbits lie in wait for. Without even knowing it. But who could really destroy it once and for all? Of course-4 little hobbits.

Naturally when they are at their tallest of approximately 4ft and are perfectly happy drinking ale, having parties and tending to their gardens they are going to need some help. After only just surviving a Nazgūl attack they find themselves at Rivendell, where they find help on their quest. Men, elves, dwarves, hobbits and a wizard all have to unite together as one if they are going to succeed in this dangerous task.

And so they go on, battling on mountain tops, running from fire breathing mine demons and slaughtering as many orcs and uuk-hai that are thrown at them.

That is about as much as which is possible that can be said without giving the rest of the story away but Peter Jackson has really worked his magic with this one. To get eveything looking in its natural habitat you can see his real dedication to the job, when he admits in the extra features that he had all the plants and wildlife in Hobbiton already there growing for about a year so as to make it look more lived in!

The attention to detail is truely something, everything from the hair on the hobbits feet which you probably hardly ever see, to the spectacular designs of the elven dress. It is obvious that this is one job which he is happy to be doing.

There is some sadness that falls throughout the film and there were a few disgruntled viewers who were not all that happy that Jackson hadn't included Tom Bombadil but to make up for this he included a poem in the extended version of the two towers spoken by Treebeard.

This cost me £22 when I first bought it but now you can get it for about £5 from Amazon and about £9 from WHSmiths, the last time I looked. Bit annoying but there's no way that I was going to wait 8 years before buying it.

The films is about 3 hours which is a bit long for some people, it might be better if you have a bathroom break before the film starts otherwise it ruins your viewing when you stop it halfway through!

Some of the actors include Ian Mckellen, Christopher Lee, Elijah Wood, Andy Serkis and Liv Tyler.

By watching this film you get transported from everyday life into one of action, comedy, romance and horror-what more could you want from a movie?!
