well worth the hype; a visually amazing film, and fabulously adapted. - Advantages: beautifully created visual landscapes, almost exactly as i imagined from the book, and sometimes more., characters mostly true to book; actors well cast., near-perfect soundtrack. - Disadvantages: those who have read the books might be disappointed that the film played down certain things, but just small details for the pedants among us.

I loved this film so much it brought out the true "Elf" in me! Aside the fact that its based on the amazingly complex and rather hefty book by Tolkien this film caters really for all ages.
