Plot Nicholas Cage plays Uri Orlov, an internation arms dealer who spends his time trading arms with mostly third world countries. He is constantly on the run from the law, but is very clever in his ways and gets himself out of trouble every time. He takes his brother with him as well, and they have become a great money-making team. It is a black comedy, that is set in all different places around the world making it intriguing and exciting at the same time. Lord of War allows Nicholas Cage to ply his trademark tough, quirky persona to the max. He plays Yuri, an American of Ukranian extraction, who decides that his career path, and his way out of Brighton Beach (the district of New York not the place on our coast!), will be as an arms dealer. He has no intention of spending his life working in his parents restaurant with his brother and he realises that selling guns is something there is always a need for in the, alleged, stronghold of the Russian Mafia. There are a number of people who seem to hate Nic Cage and likewise there are a lot of people who think he’s an incredibly talented actor. Personally I fall into the latter category and although I know at least half the people reading this will disagree with me, he is an actor I enjoy watching. Lord Of War was released last year and although I never actually made it to the cinema to see it I did buy the DVD on the day of its release. The idea sounded pretty good and with a true story providing the basis of the film it had the potential to be Cage’s best work for a while.
