... Fourth season ended, as Ben pulled the lever that moved the island, we learn that the island has now moved backwards in time, causing things to splinter off into two timelines, and also causing them to travel through time in random, narrative-friendly pockets, and while I wasn't thrilled about this, it is actually rather well done for the most part. Meanwhile, Jack and Ben are attempting to reunite the Oceanic Six, as they believe that only through doing so can they ensure that the rest of the island stays alive. ...more

Premium Review Lost - The Complete Fifth Season (DVD): Join the Initiative! (656 words)

Rating:

This is the penultimate season of Lost which aired in 2009. Our castaways are now split into two main groups: one on the mysterious island and one back on the mainland. The plot of the show now involves sci-fi elements of a high degree. The time flash phenomenon, which was introduced to us gradually throughout the past two seasons, is now in full effect. The time travel aspect is a lot to get your head around and it can sometimes be difficult to get your bearings. We are helped with inserts which state the time, date or place. When the inserts are omitted it's up to the viewer to decide: flashback, flash-forward or present time! It makes for exciting and ...  Read the complete review

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past 5/6 years then I'm sure you will have heard of Lost. Some of you may still have not seen it, but I'm sure you know the premise of the show and all have a reason for not watching it. However, for those people who have been living under a rock, here is a little summary of what's happened up until season 5. ========== The Basic Plot ========== When a group of people board Oceanic Flight 115 in Australia a lot of them are just waiting to get home to Los Angeles, however the plane never gets home and crashes on an island. The show follows the survivors of the plane crash, and the mysterious ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Lost - The Complete Fifth Season (DVD): Lost in time (390 words)

Season 5 is the 2009 series of Lost, and it contains just 17 episodes. Despite the show producers promising time travel had nothing to do with the concept behind this program, time travel is the focus of this whole season. Season 5 follows two time-lines. To begin with, there is the time-line on the island, where Sawyer et al have found themselves in the 1970s. The second time-line takes place off the island, where the Oceanic six who escaped at the end of the last season are battling with the desire to return to the island. OK, by this point in the show, fans know to expect the unexpected. To be fair, the ideas in this season allow for a whole ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review An improvement (313 words)

Lost Season Four, I must admit, I found rather hit and miss, and when the idea of time travel was introduced, I wasn't at all thrilled, given how it screws so many shows, like Heroes, up, as it not only makes the story infinitely more complicated, but it means that any plot holes and narrative problems can be easily fixed by lazy writers without any particular smarts. Season Five, though, was a lot better executed than I expected, and didn't screw with things too much. Continuing where the Fourth season ended, as Ben pulled the lever that moved the island, we learn that the island has now moved backwards in time, causing things to splinter off into two ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Lost - The Complete Fifth Season (DVD): Lost season 5 (232 words)

Rating:

Lost, where to start with this TV series, in one word it is fantastic. This fifth series only serves to enhance this with possibly the being the best season since the 1st. It picks up directly where the cliffhanger of the fourth left off and only gets more confusing from there on in with time travel, another plane crash and more mysteries to be solved. The time travel was brilliantly executed, it was never particularly convoluted and gave the producers a mechanism to show what had happened pre plane crash without an endless series of Flashbacks as had been the norm in season 1 though 3. This season also begins to actually give us some of ...  Read the complete review
