Advantages: Good Acting, Decent Story
Disadvantages: Lacked interest to me
Love Nest is a black and white Marilyn Monroe film classic. I have to say here though that though Marilyn appears here, and is technically a central character - she's not really a star of this one. That doesn't matter though as this film is brilliantly led by Maude Wallace who plays Connie.
Connie has bought a guesthouse while her husband Jim is away at war. She was supposed to be buying a house for them to live in but had decided that the guesthouse would be a more profitable venture. Jim isn't so keen when he realises that the place is falling apart though! To top it off, one of the guests is causing a bit of a stir when it turns out he's some kind of master conman. We the audience know this from almost the start of the film so it's one of those films where the entertainment comes from watching everyone else figure out.
I thought the actors were really good in this though I'm not quite sure what the point of Marilyn's character really was. This is the sort of film you should watch because you like classics rather than because you want to see a Marilyn film I think. The black and white nature of this did get a bit gloomy in places because so much of this film is shot inside the guesthouse where it's already quite dark. They lit the scenes well enough, I just felt the lack of outdoors made this a bit dark overall.
This film was included in our Marilyn Monroe box set so we didn't pay more than about £2 or £3 for this really. At that price this was worth an hour and a half of our time to watch it. It's a three and a half star film though really and I don't recommend paying the current Amazon price of £5.97 for it.
Summary: An okay film.
