Advantages: comedy at its best; one of the best films ever.

Disadvantages: : It can be, at times, hard to forget about the t.v. show

M*A*S*H is hands down the most hilarious movie ever made. I have always loved the television show; I grew up watching MASH, but I had never seen the movie until about five years ago. First of all let me say here, the movie MASH is nothing like the television show MASH; and while I like them both, they can't be compared. So when you watch the movie, forget everything you know about the t.v. show, act like it's a whole new story. If you can do this, then you will truly enjoy this movie.
Every part of this movie is good. A few of my favorite moments are when they push Frank over the edge, he's taken away in a straight jacket. When Hawkeye and Trapper John go to Tokyo, it's one of the most memorable part of any movie I've seen. Even the football game is hilarious, and I don't like football.
The funny thing about it is, it doesn't seem like a war film at all. I hate war films; but watching MASH, you begin to think: 'hey, it'd be kind of neat to be in the army.' That's how fun this film is.
The film is directed by Robert Altman. I've seen some of his other films like Short Cuts and Ready to Wear, but he didn't capture the magic and hilarity that MASH has. This movie is truly a classic, and I'm sure it will be in our cinema for centuries to come.
Mash isn't a slapstick comedy; I guess that's what makes it so good. It's a realistic comedy, and the medical scenes kind of ground the film, so it does seem real. If you're in the mood for a great laugh, check out MASH. I just hope you find it as funny as I do. Oh and check out the last meal before the suicide; I have never seen a funnier staging of the last supper.
