I came across this film on video purely by chance. The cast of 'Mad Cows' includes Anna Friel and Joanna Lumley and since it is a comedy, I expected it to be hilariously funny. The first thing that hit me was that I couldn't relax and listen to the sound track. Anna Friel puts on a very poor Australian accent, and I would have coped very well with that but she also appeared to mumble, or gabble her lines. This made the whole film very hard to watch and follow. Incidentally, this complaint wasn't just a result of my own hearing. Other people watching the film had the same trouble. I wanted to see this film out of curiosity, but you know the old cliche - curiosity killed the cat. Well curiosity sure killed my desire to watch this film after the first few minutes. The script is based on Kathy Lette's apparently acclaimed book, but after viewing the film, i wont be tempted to have a look. I couldn't decide whether the fault lay in the screenplay adaption or simply bad direction, whichever it was, the film felt unresolved and pieced together throughout.
