Alas even though Max helps this tribe in return for fuel they trick him and leave him with nothing. In the midst of this desert story are some great ideas of the future, somewhat relevant now. Its a lawless and greed driven existence. Dog eat dog. In this context the character's are tough and uncompromising in the style of Westerns of before. This film is very...more

by - written on 24/02/08 (Very useful, 38 readings)
Rating:

(Also appears at ShaunMunro.co.uk) Director: George Miller Cast: Mel Gibson Release Date: December 24th, 1981 (Australia), May 21st, 1982 (US) Certificate: MA (Australia), 18 (UK) The original Mad Max was both a critical and commercial success in 1979, pulling in over $100,000,000, a fantastic feat considering the $400,000 budget, even managing to maintain the highest cost-to-profit ratio of any motion picture for 20 years (ultimately being ousted by The Blair Witch Project). Given the film's astronomical success, it wasn't long before a sequel came along Mad Max 2 wastes no time whatsoever, introducing us to another ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Mad Max 2 (DVD): One Of The Best Action Sequels Ever Made (592 words)
by - written on 28/09/01 (Very useful, 53 readings)
Rating:

1981 saw the return of Mad Max in The Road Warrior. Max is one of the remnants of a post apocalyptic world in which oil is in short supply and the world's economy has collapsed. The original Max Mad movie introduced us to him as a policeman struggling to keep some form of law and order in a world gone mad. Lunatic gangs are everywhere and it is one of this which kills his entire family and tips him over the edge. He becomes a vigilante warrior, and remains roaming the land scraping together food and gasoline in this the return. The thing which sold the Mad Max movies was the frentic pacing of the car chases in them. That is retained here but was sadly ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review You don't have to be Max to be mad here...... (279 words)

This is the second installment in the series and really raises its own bar. This franchise is acknowledged as having some of the best action sequences and stunt set ups made. perhaps it shows its age a bit but it is still a film I enjoyed watching. Mel Gibson, as Mad Max, finds himself embroiled in a distopian future where fuel is currency. He cruises the desert in search of food and fuel to survive in his supercharged car. Along the way he meets a group of fellow survivors and helps them evade a marauding gang in the desert. They are a target as they have a tanker of petrol. Mad Max 2 (DVD): A GOOD FILM........... (434 words)
by - written on 04/09/00
Rating:

The Road Warrior is one of the best action film ever made. This is one of the films that made Mel Gibson. The first Mad Max introduced us to Max played by Mel Gibson, a policeman whose family was killed by a angry biker gang. These events are told at the start of The Road Warrior. We find out what has happened to the earth how somehow the economy collapsed when the world ran out of oil during the early 20th century. But it really doesn't matter how Max ended up all on his own.Looking all over the empty and barren land for food, gasoline, and anything else of value. Max has got everything he needs.A car to get around, a gun to protect himself, a ...  Read the complete review
