Advantages: The acting is good, its quite amusing and fun to watch - very Thelma and Louise
Disadvantages: n/a
This film has had some mixed reviews in a lot of places I've looked at but for me, this was a good entertaining crime-comedy with some very good acting!
The film's main three characters are Bridget (Diane Keaton), Jackie (Katie Holmes) and Nina (Queen Latifah). They are three women with three very different lives with one thing in common - the need to be rich - or at least richer than they are now. Bridget and husband Don (Ted Danson) are struggling to make ends meet - Bridget hasn't worked for years and Don's been laid off with seemingly no prospect of finding a job anytime soon. So Bridget decides to take a cleaning job at her local bank. Jackie and Nina already work at the bank - Jackie is a bit of a free spirit and lives in a trailer with her boyfriend and Nina is a single mother living on a poor estate. Bridget comes up with a get rich quick scheme which involves stealing money from the bank and enlists Jackie and Nina to help her out. The plan works, but will greed become their ultimate downfall?
When the film starts you get a glimpse at the end of the film so you can kind of work out what's going to happen, but for me that didn't make the film any less watchable. More so in fact, because I wanted to see what they were going to do and how they were going to do it and what happens afterwards. Personally I found this film quite amusing - there are some good one liners and you see the girls getting themselves into scrapes along the way and it's all a bit 'Thelma and Louise' really. Diane Keaton revels in her role as the bossy leader of the pack and Katie Holmes is surprisingly refreshing in her kooky role which is very different to the studious and stern Joey from Dawsons Creek. Queen Latifah plays her usual sort of role but does it well and you empathise with her as the single mother who just wants the best for her kids.
This film is a bit of crime-caper and so I was surprised at how amusing I found this film. It's quite an adventure following the women on their law breaking escapade! It's a somewhat silly story yes but it's entertaining as hell as quite funny in parts. The acting is good throughout and there are some good twists and turns that will keep you watching til the end. The film doesn't stall and it moves along at a good pace and the ending is actually quite amusing in itself. It's quite an easy going film, you don't have to think too hard when you're watching it so if you want some light relief and entertainment I would say give this a try. I was pleasantly surprised actually at how good this film was - worth watching!
Summary: Good, fun easy to watch crime-comedy!
