Disadvantages: too simple a plot
Madagascar really is a family film to watch. With a pleasant mixture of childish jokes and adult humour, I would highly recommend it anyone. It is a computer animated film done by Dreamworks Animation and I believe that once again Dreamworks have lived up to their expectations in creating fun enjoyable films for children and adults.
Mardy (Chris Rock) the zebra believes there is more to life than his home; a cage in Central Park Zoo, New York city. His plan to escape and set off to the wild, after following the advice of some mischievous penguins, soon goes terribly wrong when he's followed by his best friends; Alex (Ben Stiller) the lion, Melman (David Schwimmer) the giraffe and Gloria (Jada Pinkett Smith) the hippo. Once they've been caught by the police they are shipped away and find themselves in "Madagascar." They soon befriend a tribe of lemurs who follow the orders of their leader "King Julian" and everything seems to be going well until Alex discovers he's hungry and Mardy begins to look more like food than a friend.
I believe this film is an enjoyable watch and with an added bonus of the hilarious Ben Stiller and David Schwimmer it provides great entertainment and can be watched time and time again. I found myself laughing out loud most of the way through and genuinely believe if you watch this you'll be the same.
I credit Dreamworks for creating a variety of entertaining characters. Their huge differences in personality are what makes this film enjoyable. Personality ranges from the freedom wanting Zebra to the fame obsessed lion to the over-careful, health crazy giraffe. Overall I would say that my favourite character, as I believe he was the most entertaining was King Juliean. He provided so many of the laughs within the film that I wished I could have brought him home with me.
My one criticism I have with this film is the plot isn't one of excellence. I believe it is very simple and although it is extremely amusing I would prefer a film with a stronger plot that consists of more exciting events.
Overall I would highly recommend this film to anyone seeking a family film with a blend of comedy and adventure.
Summary: A well worthy watch
