Advantages: Great family film
Disadvantages: None in my opinion
This is a great family movie that has a bright and happy story with a nice feeling of friendship. It is a CGI animation by Dreamworks Studios and was released in 2005, its running time is 86 minutes in total. You can currently purchase the DVD from Amazon for £5.75 (January 2013).
Basically the movie revolves around 4 central characters Alex the Lion (voiced by Ben Stiller), Marty the Zebra (voiced by Chris Rock), Gloria the Hippo (voiced by Jada Pinkett Smith) and Melman the Giraffe (voiced by David Schwimmer).
They all live in Central Park Zoo, with Alex the Lion performing for visitors, Melman is a hypochondriac, Gloria dreams of love and Marty dreams of life outside the zoo. Also characters in the zoo are a group of cunning penguins who are attempting a zoo break, so you can pretty much see where this is going and one night they find themselves outside the zoo on the island of Madagascar, the movie follows there antics out in the wild. I will not elaborate anymore on the plot as this would ruining the movie before you have even seen. Whilst in Madagascar they meet King Julien the king of the Lemurs, (voiced by Sacha Baron Cohen), my favourite character, who helps them all to adjust to life outside the zoo.
It has a lively sound track that will keep you singing and moving throughout the movie and the 'I like to move it move' song will stick in your brain for days to come after watching it!
Overall this is a funny family friendly movie that has some great characters, King Julien closely followed by the penguins are the real stars in my opinion. The movie is well animated, bright, has a heart warming story and is very funny in places. My son enjoys watching it and it has helped him learn a few things about animals along the way. I would recommend this movie to others.
Summary: Great characters, easy to watch
