The film.
Tom and Hannah are best friends, they have been ever since meeting at college and hannah stood up to Tom's advances. Since college Tom has more or less seen Hannah as one of the lads and trusts her with everything and anything and has no problem with her knowing his deepest darkest secrets, except one. The one that he doesn't realise until she meets a Scottish man and tells him that they are going to get married. The secret he realises he has is that he is actually head over heels in love with Hannah and can't bare to be without her.
Unfortunately for him, she does not realise this and even worse, she wants him to be her maid of honour at the wedding. As a good friend he accepts but little does she know that he is intent on proving just how amazing he is for her, and that she should be with him.
The game is on and he only has a short amount of time to prove himself the best choice.
My opinion.
I am a big fan of Patrick Dempsey and love his way of acting. He comes across as the american version of Hugh Grant.
The idea of this film is great in my opinion. Over the last ten years there have been numerous films where the girl wants to convince the guy and goes to all lengths, but this goes the other way and make sthe guy the one doing the chasing, and even better, he has to do it as non macho as possible because of being a maid of honour.
I was sucked into the whole idea of this film from the start and loved the relationship the two main actors had. Going rom friendship to lovers is a great concept and one that many of us strive to have happen in our own lives. Being best friends with someone at the same time as realising they are your soul mate is pure gold (ooooh, a bit soppy).
Anyway, other than the other lovey dovey stuff, the actual humour of this film is spot on. It has the laughs it needs to make it work and it is not just all about laughing at Tom as he is made to look stupid as a maid of honour. There are many jokes incorporated throughout and they do well to keep you engrossed in the film during the slow parts.
All in all, this is a romcom that contends with the best out there and I would recommend it any day of the week.
I paid £3.99 for this from Tesco.
It runs for 1 hour and 37 mins and is rated a 12.
The special features aren't something to write home about but could be worth a look if your bored.
Enjoy!
