My third rental from blockbuster.com has been 'Mafia!', yet another spoof, like many great ones that have come before (and indeed after), Loaded Weapon, Naked Gun, Scary Movie. But what was 'Mafia!' like? ***Plot*** "Mafia!" is a take off of all the Mafia-related films, the Godfather, Goodfellas and the like, directed by Jim Abrahams. This movie is from director Jim Abrahams, who was also involved with the spoof comedies "Airplane!", "Hot Shots!" and "Naked Gun." It's Jim Abrahams without David and Jerry Zucker, who also worked on "Airplane!" and "Naked Gun." So maybe I was expecting too much, as it's nowhere near the same team, but I was expecting something along these lines: fast-paced comedy, lots of visual gags, movie parodies and, probably a few near the knuckle or lavatorial jokes - the 12 certificate probably gives you an idea what kind of rude jokes I mean. Do you want to see sheep get high? Do you want to see a poodle smash like china? Do you want to see a fat man do Riverdance? Do you want to see Barney the Dinosaur get speared by a dancing eskimo while watching a porn movie? If you answered yes to all of the above, then don't buy this movie, as none of them features in this film. Only joking ! This film is great, with some slick humour. Jane Austens Mafia ! made me cry with laughter when I first saw it, Starring Jay Mohr, Christina Applegate and the late Lloyd Bridges (of Hot Shots! fame).
