Advantages: Another class film from Kevin smith
Disadvantages: None
Mallrats is Kevin Smiths second film, after the success of Clerks, 1995 saw him following up with this witty look at the cultural phenomena of young adults/teens hanging at large shopping malls.
Following the day of, the Sega and comic book obsessed, Brodie [Jason Lee] and his best friend TS Quint [Jeremy London] on the day they are both dumped, the Boys decide to head to the mall.
At the mall we follow the story of Brodie and TS as the wander the mall while the ex-girlfriends Rene [Shannon Doherty] and Brandi [Clair Forlani] do the same. Meeting along the way friends, William [Ethan Suplee] who is spending the day trying to figure out a "Magic eye" picture on display and Jay and Silent Bob [Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith], of clerks fame, who they engage in helping them cause mayhem to the TV dating show due to be filmed in the mall and win back the hearts of their exes.
Filmed with a much higher budget than Clerks, Mallrats is not as dark, although the 15 year old Trish the dish, writing a sex novel is on the dark side, but is equally faced paced. Production values were notably increased along with casting and cameos including the legendary comic book writer Stan Lee, and major Hollywood player Ben Affleck.
Yet again Kevin Smith has written and directed a future classic.
Summary: A future classic.
