Mannequin is very much a film of the eighties with a sort of fairy tale theme to this romantic comedy which has a decent number of laughs and comedy moments to it.

The film opens with a flash back scee to ancient Egypt and a young princess who is about to get married wishes that the event would not happen and as a result of her wish she disappears. However her soul is still in existence and ultimately finds its way into a mannequin which is in a New York store and an employee Jonathan played by Andrew McCarthy ends up falling in love with the mannequin, it all sounds a bit creepy however the mannequin responds and comes alive and is played by Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall. In a former role is was Jonathon who made the mannequin however he got sacked so his relating to his own design is what draws him to it and hence he gets job to be near it.

To be honest the plot is paper thin if you actually bother to think about it but then that would be making a mistake as films like this are not intended for gentle reflection rather they are designed for the viewer to just sit back and enjoy.

The movie itself is cliche ridden but it is harmless fun with a numberof funny scenes and a sort of predictable ending to it that means you can feel safe and comfortable watching it, the performances are average at best but then I have never considered Cattrall an actress just a caricature of some Hollywood stereotype.

This can be seen as a good family entertainment and a film that you can enjoy watching without having the need to watch it again.
