I saw these programmes on TV in 1986, knowing nothing of the stories by E.F. Benson's stories on which they were based. All I knew was that ?Mapp and Lucia? boasted a brilliant cast (Prunella Scales, Geraldine McEwan and Nigel Hawthorne), and that the series made great, entertaining TV, which kept me tuned each week. Since that time, I?ve read some of the books ? Benson wrote six ?Lucia? books in the 1920?s (although, incidentally, he wrote around 100 books in all) ? and I can now say I?m truly an addict.
