I thought that this film would be really cute, incredibly interesting and something that I could talk to all of my freinds about the next day. I was wrong. The film starts off badly with a long introduction about how these penguins made a daring choice to stay whilst their surroundings became covered in ice. The film then spends almost 90 minutes discussing these penguins and the annual trek they do in order to keep the species alive. It seems interesting enough, however it simply goes that they find a mate, mate, lay an egg, then the female leaves to go eat, then the male and then they both meet up again before abandoning their new chicks. March Of The Penguins March Of The Penguins takes the viewer on the journey of the mating rituals of the Emperor penguin - Emperor penguins being one of the most resilient animals to walk the earth. Ever since I heard about this film I wanted to watch it as I love documentaries and the basis for this one seemed rather special, the fact it's narrated by Morgan Freeman was an added bonus. It's only now I've got around to watching it and found it to be a bit of a let down. Why did I get up from my armchair, go to the cinema, buy a ticket and watch a documentary on animals what with TV being full of this genre? I must confess that I became a victim of the media hype, when the film was released in Germany, penguins were suddenly everywhere! I read an enthusiastic film review in my daily newspaper, a women’s mag advised me to take a box of Kleenex with me to the cinema as women always get wet eyes when seeing young animals (aha?), on the radio someone claimed that on a scale of cuteness from 0 to 10, penguin chicks scored 11(!).
