Advantages: Wilson and Aniston shine
Disadvantages: may make you cry
Marley and Me (based on the book of the same title by John Grogan) is set around newlyweds John (brilliantly played by Owen Wilson) and Jenny (Jennifer Aniston 'Racheal form friends') Grogan and their loveable yet micheavious puppy Marley-named after the singer Bob Marley.
Soon after the wedding John and Jenny move from small town Michegan to Florida and both take up jobs at rival newspapers. Jenny an organised, over achiever sets out her life like a to-do list, and having crossed off getting married and moving house, laid back John fears her next step is a baby. To distract her from this John buys her a new puppy Marley.
Meanwhile at work, whilst Jenny is high flying, John is being held back until he is given a weekly column which he soon fills with Marley's crazy adventures, and his column soon becomes a hit. Soon after the couple have to overcome a whole host of problems including children, new jobs, moving house and postnatal depression all with loveable, uncontrollable Marley at their side.
I wnt to see this film with a group of friends and being a dog lover i knew that i would probably enjoy this film. Loveable Marley, the standout best character, reminded me of my old dog who sadly passed away a few years ago and brought back fun childhood memories that had been buried at the back of my mind. Even non dog lovers would enjoy this film and Marley's hiarious antics at the local dog obdience centre and around the Grogan house. Wilson and Aniston show just how good they are as comic actors/actresses and the chemsitry between them is excellent with Aniston perticualry brilliant as Jenny Grogan, with an adorable character like Marley as the lead then what could go wrong.
Marley and Me - a funny, romantic tear jearker that definatley holds it's sucess to its loveable fourlegged lead.
Summary: a great feel good, tear jearker
