I recently reviewed the film 'Taken' and pondered what made a good revenge thriller. The answer was that you had to like the hero and really hate the bad guys. This type of film puts all its eggs in one basket as the central character is the story; they are the driving force that makes the film a success or failure. Make that person dangerous, charismatic, funny, absolutely anything but bland. Therefore, hiring the likes of top actor Liam Neeson is a good idea; hiring cardboard blandfest Mark Wahlberg is not. One of the best films made based upon a video game. It has to be said, the general trend would stipulate that all films based upon/around video games have to be rubbish but this film (Max Payne) is a great exception to the rule. I shan't go through the plot mainly because it confuses the hell out of me so just go to IMDB. This was the first film I bought on Bluray disc and it is worth it. I was never into Bluray mainly due to the extortionate prices for both hardware and the discs themselves but as technology evolves and prices drop we decided to get a new full HD TV and Bluray player.
