Advantages: Good for some laughs.

Disadvantages: Weak in parts.

Dave (Eddie Murphy) is a spaceship piloted by little humanoid aliens. Controlled by the aliens, Dave has to learn to negotiate his way around the world of humans, without giving away his true intent (which I won't reveal here). The concept owes a lot to Men in Black, which had a human form driven by a tiny alien.
But some of the scenes remind me of the 1960's sf series Land of the Giants. In this, a tourist spaceship travels through a wormhole and lands on a planet where everything is twelve times the size of its counterpart on Earth (now on DVD if you've never seen it).

Meet Dave is much wackier than Inner Space or Land of the Giants though. Eddie Murphy is funny as the robotic blank eyed spaceship frantically piloted by the panicking aliens as they try to figure out what is going on around them. He gets hit by a car, and befriends the driver, Gina (Elizabeth Banks) and her young son, Josh (Austyn Lind Myers) which gives the aliens inside a chance to get to know the people of Earth. Additionally the accident provides a convenient reason for his weird and sometimes delayed responses.

It's an interesting, if silly, variation on the concept of aliens trying to blend in on Earth. Some of the mini aliens begin to be influenced by American popular culture and develop a liking for the junk food that Dave has to pretend to consume. But this leads to problems and the whole mission begins to fall apart.

Some of the humour is laugh-out-loud funny, and some just weak. It's directed by Brian Robbins who also directed Norbit, so if you liked Norbit, you'll probably enjoy this. I don't think this is Eddie Murphy's best film. He was better in 48 Hours and Beverly Hills Cop and you really just can't beat him as Donkey in the Shrek movies.

Summary: Worth a look if you're an Eddie Murphy fan.
