Advantages: good acting and strong storyline

Disadvantages: a bit too long and the beginning takes a while to get going

I have just finished watching this film and I felt the need to come and write about it straight away as I have so many mixed feelings about it.

I feel quite tired as it lasted for nearly three hours which I find quite a long time to sit down and watch a film. Even though it lasted this long I found it to be quite gripping apart from the beginning which was quite slow but soon picked up. I do feel that it had to be slow so that the storyline could be understood fully.

The story begins when two people meet in a coffee shop and begin to fall in love with each other, fast I know! When the man leaves he hets killed but the women doesn't know about this. I found this part quite sad as it was acted so well even though it was quite brief. Anyway the story progresses from here with the mans body being taken over by a grim reaper. He is played by Brad Pitt and later on in the film begins to be known as Joe Black, hence the title of the film. This reaper then goes in search for William Parish (Anthony Hopkins) who is pretty wealthy. He want him to die but before doing this he asks William to show him life! This was done wonderfully!

The twist is that William has a daughter named Susan (Claire Forlani) and this happens to be the lady from the coffee shop! They end up falling in love but her Dad prevents this as she is in love with death!

I won't spoil the ending but lets just say it is fantastic. All the problems seem to wear away and all end well. Not only will it teach you a few things about love, but also made me think that death isn't such a bad thing.

The acting was absolutely fantastic. Pitts performance seemed to stand out as he had to play two different characters, this was done well and in some parts he was quite funny. Don't turn the film off because of the slow beginning as it really does pick up and you will be impressed with it!
